Governor Tim Pawlenty Attends Groundbreaking of Minnesota Zoo’s $20 Million “Heart of the Zoo” Project Apple Valley, MINN – June 21, 2010 – The Minnesota Zoo broke ground with Governor Tim Pawlenty today on the first phase of “Heart of the Zoo” - a $20 million project that includes a new penguin exhibit, Cargill Environmental Education Center, Target Learning Center and upgrades to the main entrance. State Representative Phil Sterner and representatives from major corporate supporters – Target and Cargill – were also in attendance. The Heart of the Zoo project will set the tone for the entire Minnesota Zoo visit with welcoming landscapes, innovative architecture, exciting animal environments, and cutting-edge sustainable design and operation. This first phase of “Heart of the Zoo” is scheduled to be completed in summer 2011. The Minnesota Zoo is located in Apple Valley, just minutes south of Mall of America.
