Application

A student intern MUST be receiving academic credit from, or fulfilling an academic requirement for an accredited educational institution. In most instances, student interns are upper division majors or minors in the areas of biological science, horticulture, pre-veterinary medicine, education, conservation biology or related disciplines.

Internships are unpaid and are 10 to 14 weeks in length and 30 to 40 hours per week.

Applications MUST Include:

  • Completed application form
  • Cover Letter including a paragraph explaining why you are interested in an internship at the Minnesota Zoo;
  • Resume;
  • Official Transcripts; and,
  • Letter of recommendation from an advisor or supervisor
Please note: Incomplete application packets will not be considered.

Conservation Internship

The Minnesota Zoo’s Conservation Department coordinates a variety of programs that promote the conservation of endangered animals as well as environmental sustainability.  For an overview of our programs, please visit www.mnzoo.org/conservation/conservation.asp. We accept interns and volunteers year-round. For Summer 2012, we are seeking an intern who is motivated and independent to assist with the Tiger Species Survival Plan (see details below).

Summer Internship:

Approximately 10 - 14 weeks, 20-40 hours per week. Start and end dates are flexible. Internships are unpaid and no housing or transportation is provided.

This position is office-based and requires a great deal of independence. Interns will receive training from the Director of Conservation. Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Compiling and organizing zoos’ tiger-related requests and reports for the Tiger Species Survival Plan (SSP)
  • Helping prepare presentation materials and handouts for the 2012 Tiger SSP meeting this July
  • Keeping track of tiger-related news and publications for the Tiger SSP’s website and Facebook page (under construction)
  • Assisting with the Tiger SSP’s Tiger Conservation Campaign (www.mnzoo.org/tigerssp/campaign)

Intern applicants should be undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a conservation-related degree.
