Instructions:
This craft is adapted from Ranger Rick's NatureScope, Diving
Into Oceans. Other habitats and animals may be
substituted for the Tropical Rainforest
with Tapir, Leopard, Python, Hornbill and Gibbon included on
the template. Consecutive pages can also be made into a pop-up
book.
Steps:
1.Choose a habitat and a few examples of the plant and animal
life found there. Older students may choose to create their own
backgrounds and draw their own plants and animals. For younger
students, you can facilitate the project by xeroxing the template
with animals onto cardstock.
2. Fold cardstock (works best)
or construction paper in half and decide where pop-up components
will be placed by marking with a pencil. Mark a 2 1/2" x
2" rectangle and a
1 1/2" x 1" rectangle about 2 1/2" apart across
the fold, so that each rectangle will also fold in half. Additional
rectangles may be added.
3. Cut along the sides of the rectangles only, leaving the top & bottom
connected. Gently push the rectangles out from the backside of
the cardstock or construction paper. Crease each rectangle on
the fold so that it stands up when folded.
4. Color and cut out the plants and animals and glue a few
to the flat background of your card. Select those that will pop
up and glue them to the rectangles.
