Monkey puppet

Instructions:
This craft requires a lot of prep for younger students; however, older students should be able to cut out all of the parts themselves. The paper bag may be left unstuffed and used as a puppet, or stuffed with newspaper like a stuffed animal. Discuss prehensile tails and use a pipe cleaner instead of a paper tail so that the monkey can be hung from its tail (optional). Googley eyes and fake fur are also optional.

Steps:
1. Draw all monkey parts and make copies from originals on brown & white construction paper (see photo). You may choose to pre-cut monkey parts for preschoolers.
2. Glue the two hands (white) and two feet (white) onto the arms and legs (brown).
3. Then glue the white face onto the round brown circle (head).
4. Glue the white hair onto the top of the head.
5. Then glue or draw the eyes (googley eyes optional), mouth & nostrils onto the face.
6. Glue the white inner ear to the brown outer ear.
7. Glue the ears onto each side of the monkey’s head.
8. Glue the brown tail onto the back of the paper bag (opposite side of the flap), or tape or staple a brown pipe cleaner to the back of the paper bag.
9. Glue the head onto the flap of the paper bag, and the arms and legs onto the sides & bottom of the bag respectively. You may wish to tape or staple the arms and legs to reinforce them.
10. Stuff the paper bag with newspaper if desired, and staple the bottom of the bag closed.
11. Glue a patch of fake fur onto the paper bag if desired.
