Instructions:
This fun craft is described in Ranger Rick's NatureScope, Wild
and Crafty. The design, with a rubber band stretched between
two points on a plastic lid, allows kids to make their own
frog sounds! The call of the Green Frog sounds like the twang
of a loose banjo string. Male frogs call to attract a mate.
Each species has its own type of call, and females respond
only to the calls of their own species.
Steps:
1. Cover the container with green construction paper. Glue or
tape in place.
2. Draw and make copies of frog faces, eyes, feet and belly
on green and white cardstock or construction paper (see photo).
3. Cut out face and eyes and glue eyes to the face. Draw pupils,
mouth and nostrils on face. Glue or tape the face to the side
of the container.
4. Cut out feet and tape or glue to the bottom of the container.
Cut out oval-shaped white belly and glue below the face (see
photo).
5. Cut a tab near the edge of each side of the plastic lid and
bend the tabs up. Stretch a rubber band around the tabs and plunk
away! Changing the tension of the rubber band will change the
sound produced.
