Educators’ Conservation Series: Minnesota Wildlife
Beginning this winter, the Minnesota Zoo will be offering a series of workshops focusing on conservation issues facing Minnesota wildlife. Come learn more about these animals in our own back yards-- observe them at the zoo, learn about their habitats, exploring their roles in the ecosystem, and discuss some of the challenges that they face here and beyond. Gather ideas and activities for teaching about these animals and broader conservation issues in your classroom. Workshops are open to all educators.
Moose in Minnesota
Recently there has been significant media attention on the dramatic decline of the moose population in northern Minnesota. Once, an icon of the north woods, this species has all but disappeared from parts of its traditional habitat and there is concern that moose will eventually disappear from Minnesota completely. Join us for a day at the zoo during which we will hear from researchers about some of the factors affecting the moose population and some of the predictions for the future, visit our resident moose, learn about moose habitat and survival needs, and discuss ways to teach about moose and use them as a case study for conservation education in the classroom. 6 CEUs available.
