The wolverine is listed as vulnerable by the 2000 IUCN Redlist.
Its historical distribution in North America was throughout Canada
and across all of the northern tiers of states in the United States
even south into Arizona and New Mexico. Current distribution of
wolverines in the continental US includes populations in Idaho
and Montana. Wolverines were extirpated from the Midwest sometime
in the early 1900's. This reduced distribution has been caused
by human encroachment on historically occupied wolverine habitat.
The wolverine is also found in northern regions across much of
Europe and Asia including the Amur river valley of Russia.
