Rhinoceros Hornbill

This species is listed as near-threatened by the IUCN Redlist and is protected from trade under Appendix II of CITES. Its main threat in the wild is destruction of its rainforest habitat as it usually resides only in large tracts of undisturbed primary rainforest. In zoos, this species is managed by a Species Survival Plan (SSP) to improve its genetics and increase successful breeding in the captive population.
