The Conservation Breeding Specialist Group (CBSG)

The Conservation Breeding Specialist Group (CBSG) is an international conservation organization dedicated to protecting our planet's biodiversity. CBSG is based at the Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley. Although we are not affiliated with the Minnesota Zoo or the state of Minnesota, the Zoo generously houses the CBSG offices.

What does CBSG do and why?

Worldwide coordination of conservation efforts is critical to biodiversity management. Only through development and implementation of local management actions can a global conservation strategy succeed. Local management is CBSG's action focus. Wildlife and governmental officials invite CBSG to help with their conservation efforts. We bring together people with expertise to assess the status of a species or group of species and then help develop management strategies to minimize the risk of extinction. For more information on CBSG programs and/or contribution opportunities, please access them on the web www.cbsg.org.
