Description: The goitered gazelle gets its name from the goiter like swelling on the throat of the males during the rut. The swelling is not a goiter but an enlarged cartilaginous cylinder growth on the male. The males have long curved black horns that go outward and turn back in at the tip forming a “S” shape horn. The females are hornless but not always. Males are larger then females. They weigh from 40 to 73 pounds and are 2 to 2 ˝ feet at the shoulders.
The goitered gazelle is tan colored with a white underbelly and white rump area, very similar to the coloration on the pronghorn except the gazelle’s have a black tail. The adults have white face a brown nose and eye stripe.
